Born in Freiburg, Germany, Sebastian Wohlfarth started playing the violin at the age of six. From 1985 he was taught by Prof. Ildigo Moog and as of 1988 Prof. Christian Sikorksi. In 1990 he switched instruments and began playing the viola, studying with Prof. Kim Kashkashian at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg and at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. Additionally he participated in master classes by Nora Chastain, Schmuel Askkenazy and György Kurtag, among others.
Since completing his studies, he works as a freelance chamber musician and soloist, appearing on many concert halls in Germany and abroad. He also is a devoted music teacher and plays with the Basle Chamber Orchestra, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble and the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn.
